Shane Story

Shane Story, a native of Ogden, Utah, grew up in Eden and returned to his roots in 1985. When he was a child, he aspired to run his own town one day. In 1988, he graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor degree in technical sales. As a member of Delta Epsilon Chai at WSU, he earned second place nationally. He was recruited out of WSU to work for Nestle and has enjoyed working there in various positions for the last 22 years. Currently, he is the Category Account Manager for one of Nestle’s largest accounts.

With a life full of community service, Shane has held many positions in scouting, on PTAs, community councils, church, and also as an Ogden School Foundation Board member.

Shane is married to Heather and together they have three children, the youngest of whom attends Ogden High School.

Jennifer Zundel
Precinct 3

Board member since 2005

The Wasatch Front has been home to Jennifer Zundel her entire life. She was born in Ogden, raised in North Ogden and returned to settle her family in the native town she loves. Jennifer married Alan J. Zundel in 1988 and together they have six children: four girls and two boys.

Jennifer’s focus has always been to further educational opportunities for her children and that of the community. She held several positions on the PTA at Hillcrest Elementary School as well as serving on the Community Councils at Hillcrest Elementary School and Highland Junior High School. She served as Co-chair of her Neighborhood Council, has held several positions in her ward and stake for the LDS church, and coached for the American Youth Soccer Organization. She spends much of her life cheering on her children at track meets, basketball, and volleyball games.

Local classrooms have benefitted from hundreds of her volunteer hours. In school year 2008-2009, Jennifer was awarded the Parent Volunteer of the Year award for the GEAR-Up grant. Jennifer continues to serve on the board as the newly elected 2011 Board Vice President.

Don E. Belnap
Precinct 1

Board member since 2005

Ogden, Utah has been home to Don Belnap for most of his life. He was born in California and moved to Ogden during his sixth grade year. He attended Grandview Elementary School, Mount Ogden Junior High School, and graduated from Ogden High School. In 1984, Don pursued higher education at Weber State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree as a history major and a minor in management. He continued his education through the accredited American College of Pennsylvania, acquiring three additional degrees.

Following college, Don launched his career in the life insurance field. He started his own company, Don Belnap and Associates, and has been managing it ever since.

Don’s passion for education is evident in his years serving on the Ogden High School PTA and community council. He has also served as a Neighborhood Council Leader, has enjoyed years of coaching, has led in scouting, and is currently a bishop in the LDS church.

His leadership and dedication to public education has engendered the support of his fellow board members, who re-elected him as Board President for a fourth term in January 2011.

With his wife, Mary, Don has seven children: five girls and two boys. He and Mary have enjoyed 29 years of marriage. Mary is a staff-assistant, primarily in physical education, at T.O. Smith Elementary School.

Steven Marker
Precinct 2

Board member since 2011

Raised in Ogden City, Steve Marker is a product of Ogden School District. He attended Taylor Canyon Elementary, Central Middle School, and Ogden High School. His early education propelled him to obtain a Bachelor of Science teaching degree in business education at Weber State University in 1976. After serving an LDS mission in northern Italy, Steve pursued his Masters in Organizational Management degree at University of Phoenix, which he obtained in 2004.

Beginning as a young man, Steve worked for 24 years at Richard’s Sheet Metal, working his way up several positions, including Journeyman and Member of the Board of Directors. Steve constantly expanded his business experience while working at Richard’s Sheet Metal and thereafter. He served on the LDS Public Communications Council, LDS Facilities Management Coordinator, Weber State Alumni Board of Directors, and President of Rolling Hills Country Club. In 1980, he obtained a Four-year Trade degree at the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College.

Steve went on to work at Farmer’s Insurance and All Metals Fabrication in 1995. In 2003, he used his wealth of experience to create Steve Marker’s Custom Stainless, which he continues to manage today. During the first few years of his new business, Steve’s professional career also included Rees Construction, adjunct instructor at the Clearfield Job Corp, realtor for ERA Webber Real Estate and Space Shuttle Inventory Tool Planning Manager at ATK Thiokol.

Throughout his life, Steve has immersed himself in community service through scouting, Ogden Pioneers Days, McKay Dee Hospital Emergency Room Volunteer, and several church callings. He has found diversion from his busy work life in becoming a book author and in spending time with his family. His wife, Joy Cluff Marker, has served as Finance Secretary at Mound Fort Junior High for eleven years. Together, they enjoy their six children and several grandchildren.

Jeffrey Heiner
Precinct 4
Term: Jan 2013- Dec 2014
Jeffrey Heiner actively serves on the Ogden School Board for Education in Precinct 4. Jeffrey serves the areas of Taylor Canyon, Polk, Dee, Gramercy, Mound Fort, Mount Ogden and Ogden High. Jeffrey’s motivation is entirely driven by wanting to be highly involved to help his children have a better education. Since he joined the Board in October 2011, Jeffrey has enthusiastically participated as a member of three Performance Pay Committees, which includes one other Board member, teachers/non-licensed employees, and administrators.

Jeffrey’s childhood years were spent in Roy, where he attended public schools through high school. He earned his Eagle Scout, attended Utah Valley State College for a short time and served an LDS mission to Philadelphia.

Upon his return from his mission, Jeffrey moved to Ogden to attend Weber State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. While at WSU, Jeffrey wrote for The Signpost and was Project Manager over the annual Holocaust Commemoration. He double majored in Communication and Technical Sales while working full time at Bank of Utah as a computer operator and a public relations intern.

Following WSU, Jeffrey worked for three years at New York Life, selling insurance. His most recent six years have been spent climbing the ranks at Marketstar, where he has managed various sales/marketing departments for companies such as Nvidia, Computer Associates, BlackBerry and currently Logitech.

In 1998, Jeffrey married Emilie McFarland, an Ogden High alumnus and daughter of Mike and Sally McFarland. Together, they have four children, one of which is pre-kindergarten and three in elementary school. Jeffrey’s family and the community have benefitted from his volunteer hours whenever he has time. He currently serves in an ecclesiastical position of trust and has coached little league, youth soccer and basketball. Jeffrey is passionate about district improvement and empowering each child through enhanced instruction.

Joyce Wilson
Precinct 7

Joyce Wilson brings a wealth of experience to the board. From 2007 to 2011, she served consecutive terms as Board Vice President. She received her Associates in Science and Liberal Arts degree from Mohegan Community College in Connecticut. She graduated with a Bachelor degree from Briarwood College while yet residing in Connecticut. Joyce continued her education at Park University in Missouri as well as Weber State University in Utah.

From 1985 to 2008, Joyce held several positions at Hill Air Force Base including Resource Advisor for the OO-ALC Commander. Prior to her years at the base, she worked as the Glacier County Deputy Treasurer in Montana, as a typesetter and proofreader for the Pioneer Press in Montana, and as a Military Pay Clerk for the Naval Submarine Base in Connecticut.

These years of professional accomplishments propelled her toward community service on many levels. She is actively involved with the performing arts programs at Ben Lomond High School and Ogden High School, serves on the OWATC Board of Directors, is the Vice Chair of the Ogden City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and served on the Advisory Committee for the Ogden City Youth Council. She acted as Vice President of the Mound Fort PTSA for a year and as President for two years. Prior to living in Ogden, Joyce became a member of the Board of Directors for the New London (CT) Youth League which led to her membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Ladies Auxiliary of the JayCees. She has received many awards through the years for her service and career advancements.

Joyce is married to Bill Wilson and together they have one daughter, who attended Ogden public schools and excelled in the Ogden High School theatre program. Joyce is passionate about advocating for increased parent involvement.
