English Language Learning Mission:

"In order to prepare Limited English Proficient students to function in a global society, the Ogden City School District will provide the necessary services to ensure equal accesss to all educational opportunities."

Alternative Language Services are designed to ensure academic rigor, cultural relevance, postive learning environments,and ongoing english language learning for students learning English as a Second or Other Language.

All Ogden City School District students learnign English as a second language receive specific, targeted instriction in English Language Development. Teachers throughout the district and at each school are trained in appropriate methods of instriction including the use of Sheltered Instruction (as per the SIOP model), best practices and current research regarding these practices.

Utah has adopted the WIDA Standards as our new English Language Proficiency Standards. All teachers in Ogden will be trained to use these as part of a 3 year plan beginning school year 2010-2011. Thank you to those schools who have completed their training and have begun implementing these research-based standards!
