TEACHER LOAN FORGIVENESS

If you are a full-time teacher in an elementary or secondary school that is serving students from low-income families you could qualify to have a portion of your Perkins or Stafford Loan forgiven under The National Defense Education Act.  This would forgive 15% of your loan for the first and second years of teaching, 20% for the third and fourth, and 30% for the fifth.

Perkins loans can be cancelled for full-time service as a teacher in a designated elementary or secondary school serving students from low-income families, special education teachers, teachers of math, science, foreign languages, bilingual education, or other fields designated as teacher shortage areas.  For more information please access the U.S. Department of Education's pages on Cancellation/Deferment Options for Teachers and Cancellation for Childcare Providers at www.ed.gov

Another link for the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program - FFEL and Direct Loan Programs is www.studentaid.ed.gov.  You could potentially qualify for up to $5,000 of loan forgiveness if you have not had an outstanding balance on an FFEL or Direct Loan as of October 1, 1998.  Certain math, science, and special education teachers could qualify for an increased amount up to $17,500.

Why are Background Checks Required?

Ogden City School District is charged with the responsibility to protect the health and safety of all students and to protect the property of the Board of Education.  To help meet this responsibility, the Ogden District requires a criminal background check.  This background check is incorporated as part of the district hiring process.

Who Needs a Background Check?

All new district employees and volunteers are required to complete an FBI backgound check as a condition of employment/working with students.

Steps to Completing the Background Check

Ogden City School District Human Resource Services is now a livescan fingerprinting site.  Fingerprinting hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Current Licensed Employees of Ogden City School District:  Begin the fingerprinting process by accessing https://secure.utah.gov/elr/welcome.html, paying the $74.00 fee required by the State, downloading the LiveScan form, and bringing it into Human Resources.  (NOTE: When asked on the government website if you want to fingerprint on a card or do livescan, please choose livescan).  There are no additional charges if you fingerprint in Human Resources.  If you choose to go to another LiveScan site there is a potential processing fee of $20.00.  New legislation requires licensed people to complete a new background check every time their license is up for renewal or is upgraded.  The fingerprint process must be completed and cleared prior to renewing or upgrading your license.
  • Current Classified/Volunteer Employees of Ogden City School District:  State law now requires current classified employees working in the public school system to be fingerprinted every six years as a condition of their continued employment .  You will be notified via district or US mail when you need to complete this process.  Once notified, you will need to complete a "Request for Electronic Applicant Background Check" form in Human Resource Services and pay the feeas indicated below:

Employees who work:

30 to 40 hours/wk                      $60.00
