Congratulations to Heather Young for being honored with the Achieving Higher Award!

Congratulations to Elizabeth Young, Heritage Elementary 4th grade teacher, for being honored with Ogden School District's March Achieving Higher Award for demonstrating extraordinary skill, dedication and strength to create a collaborative culture where students are motivated to achieve by setting, monitoring, adjusting and celebrating their individual goals.

Read her nomination below:

"Mrs. Young has taught me so much about creating a collaborative culture in her classroom. She not only encourages but expects students to be and do their best, all while letting them know that she cares about them and knows what they are capable of. I hear how often she celebrates what her students are doing and I see on her walls and cupboards all of the successful work her students accomplish. As a teacher of the grades after her, I have many of her past students and they all love Mrs. Young. They've said she's their favorite teacher because "she listens and cares about me, yet I better get stuff done, otherwise I'm not doing my job as a student!" I've also witnessed her commitment to adjusting her teaching according to data that she administers, collects, and reflects on. She is constantly wanting both herself and her students to try harder and do better. Mrs. Young has always shown charisma inside and outside the classroom. She also loves working for Ogden School District. Never once have I heard her talk about leaving because she wants to see success and become a better teacher at our school.” -

Congratulations to Heather Rich, Shadow Valley Elementary Kindergarten teacher, for being honored with Ogden School District's March Achieving Higher Award for demonstrating extraordinary skill, dedication and strength to create a collaborative culture where students are motivated to achieve by setting, monitoring, adjusting and celebrating their individual goals.

Read her nomination below:

"Heather is a team player who is always willing to work with any child, no matter how high or low they come. She creates a collaborative culture in her classroom by making all of the students feel like they are a part of a team and community, all responsible for helping one another and themselves succeed. Her classroom environment is one of patience, understanding, fun, and excitement! She is always arriving to school early to prepare fun projects for her students and is always aware of what her kiddos need to learn. She will adjust her lesson plans to slow down and scaffold extra support , as well as speed up or create more challenging learning opportunities for those who have flourished under her teaching and supervision. Finally, Heather has multiple displays around her classroom celebrating student accomplishments! She has hot air balloons the students "ride" as they pass off levels on lexia, she has star student stars posted on her bulletin board, and she constantly puts up their cross-cutting artwork in the hall for all to enjoy. Her kiddos all love her and love being in her class, she makes learning fun for them and makes it so that they WANT to learn and do well. Heather goes above and beyond to be helpful. All of her coworkers love working with her and all of her students adore her. She never makes anybody feel bad for asking for extra support and by the end of the year, nearly all of her students are ready for first grade - which is quite the feat considering she gets all of the lowest students as she is the ONLY full day kinder class at shadow valley.” - Jess Gilman
