Congratulations toΒ Kalii Caldwell,Β Ogden High School, for being named a 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholar!

Congratulations to Kalii CaldwellOgden High School senior, for being named a 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholar!

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. More than 5,200 candidates qualified for the 2019 award, and Ms. Caldwell was chosen as one of the 161 high school seniors selected.

Kalii said, "Winning this award is so incredibly gratifying. I am in awe- there are brilliant minds across the United States, and being chosen to stand among such amazing students is an extraordinary feeling! I am on cloud nine! When I received the invitation to apply, the prestige of this award felt so beyond me. I had zero confidence that I would win; however, I still gave it all I had and put a lot of work into the application. I feel undeserving- there are so many phenomenal people who have led phenomenal lives and I feel that I do not compare. It feels so surreal! I am beyond excited and so grateful for my amazing support system, without whom this would not have been achieved. Thank you to my teachers, my administrators, my classmates, my friends, and my family- I love you all and am so blessed."

All recipients are sent on an all-expenses paid program that includes a trip to Washington D.C. where she will meet the President and U.S. Secretary of Education at a celebratory dinner at the White House!

"This is an experience I will never forget! It is something which I will remember for the rest of my life for numerous reasons. Beyond the physicality of the award, I will never forget that great things are possible and nothing is beyond reach," Kalii said. "It will be a constant reminder that hard work is the pinnacle of success and although immediate rewards may not seem apparent, the investment will be realized someday."
