EdTech Endorsement

The Education Technology Endorsement Program, also known as the "EdTech Endorsement Program" is an endorsement that is recognized by the Utah State Board of Education. Similar to an English as a Second Language Endorsement, the EdTech Endorsement will also show on your teaching license.

There are 12 core credits* (4 courses): Foundations of Instructional Design for Educators, Educational Technology in the Classroom, Educational Technology Leadership, and Digital Citizenship and Information Literacy.

*Prior to Fall 2022, EdTech Endorsement participants needed 9 elective credits. The new competency-based structure does not require electives.

If you are currently employed in OSD, your course and textbook fees will be covered by OSD. If you are a participant from outside of the district, you will be charged $250 per course. This fee includes textbooks. (Non-Refundable)

The four courses will take place during the Fall and Spring semesters of two consecutive school years. We start a new cohort every fall for new participants.

• Foundations of Instructional Design for Educators (Fall)
• Supporting (Developing) 21st Century Learners (Spring)
• Digital Citizenship and Information Literacy (Fall)
• Educational Technology Leadership (Spring)

OSD recommends participants take each course in order.

We are now offering EdTech Endorsement courses to participants outside of the district as well as OSD employees. In addition, participants need to be licensed educators who are actively working on receiving their EdTech Endorsement. 

In OSD there have been a variety of diverse participants. The list includes; Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches, SPED Teachers, Music Specialists, Writing Specialists, and Library Specialists.

Yes! Up to 12 credits can be applied to a master’s degree at Southern Utah University. In order for your 12 credits to count towards a master’s degree, you will need to complete the entire endorsement and have it listed on your teaching license. Please contact SUU for more information. 

The class schedule* aligns closely with the traditional college semesters. Fall and Spring semester will be 15 weeks long.

*Please note that while unlikely,  the schedule is subject to change based on facility availability and scheduling conflicts. 

Hybrid Model and Online: The OSD EdTech Endorsement follows a hybrid model or an online model. Hybrid means we do not meet face-to-face every week. We typically meet about 6 times during each semester and the rest of the weeks are online. Online courses will meet virtually as per the schedule and the remaining weeks are asynchronous work.

Learning Management System: All the courses are housed in Canvas. Each course is made up of modules that include 1-4 weeks of learning. Participants complete 45 hours of seat time per course. Lessons, discussions, assignments, rubrics, and all other content can be found in Canvas, making it accessible for all learners at any time.
