If you are having trouble with your Chromebook while at home, we have a few topics listed here that should help you with most issues. If you are still having trouble, talk to your teacher or school site tech for more support.

How do I connect to Wi-Fi at home?

Step 1: Turn on Wi-Fi

At the bottom right, select the time.
Select Not Connected.
- Note: If you see your Wi-Fi network name and a signal strength, your Chromebook is already connected to Wi-Fi.
Turn on Wi-Fi.
Your Chromebook will automatically look for available networks and show them to you in a list.

Step 2: Pick a network and connect

Select your Wi-Fi network.
Type the network password.
Select Connect.

Can I use my Chromebook offline?

Step 1: Make Google Drive available offline

Connect to the Internet.
Open the Google Docs Offline extension.
Click Add to Chrome. (If the button says "Added to Chrome," you’ve already installed the extension.)
Go to drive.google.com/drive/settings.
In the "Offline" area, check the box. It might take a few minutes for the offline access setting to turn on.
Click Done.

Your Chromebook saves your most recently opened documents so you can work on them offline.

Step 2: Work on a file offline

When your Chromebook isn’t connected to the Internet:

In the corner of your screen, click the Launcher [Circle icon] and then Up arrow.
Click Google Drive.
Find the file you’d like to work on, and double-click it to open.
Work on your file. Any changes will sync to Google Drive the next time your Chromebook connects to the Internet.

How do I save local files?

Find and open a file

In the corner of your screen, select the Launcher [Circle icon] and then Up arrow.
Open Files.
On the left, choose where your file is saved.
- For files you’ve just used, select Recent.
- For a list of files by type, select Image, Video, or Audio.
- For files in your cloud, select the folder, such as Google Drive.
Find your file and double-click it to open.

If you're opening a file on an external storage device, remove the device safely when you're done by clicking Eject.

Save a file

To save the page, image, or document you're viewing:

Press Ctrl + s.
At the bottom, enter a name for your file.
Optional: To the left of the file name, change the file type.
In the left column, choose where you'd like to save your file, such as Google Drive and then My Drive.
Select Save.

How do I print from my Chromebook?

How do I use the touchpad/keyboard on my Chromebook?

Right-Click

Press or tap the touchpad with two fingers. You can also press Search [Magnifying glass button], then click with one finger.

Scroll on the trackpad

Place two fingers on the touchpad and move them up and down to scroll vertically, or left and right to scroll horizontally.

Turn on/off caps Lock

To turn Caps Lock on or off, press Alt + Search.

Switch between tabs

If you have multiple browser tabs open, swipe left and right with three fingers.

Use the top row of your keyboard keys

[Back arrow] Go to the previous page (F1)
[Forward arrow] Go to the next page (F2)
[Refresh button] Refresh your current page (F3)
[Expand screen] Make your page take up the full screen (F4)
[Multiple windows] Show all your open windows (F5)
[Small cog] Decrease screen brightness (F6)
[Large cog] Make the screen brighter (F7)
