Raku Pottery Camp

At Ben Lomond High School.

Raku is a Japanese style of pottery first made during the 1580s; the practice is characterized by the removal of a clay object from the kiln at the height of the firing and causing it to cool very rapidly. It is then placed in a reduction chamber causing glaze surface cracking, flashing of color, and black reduction of the clay body. It is exciting for students because it has fast and nearly immediate results. We will spend the first 3 days creating, sculpting, and wheel throwing, and the last day glazing and firing. We will go from glazing to a finished piece in just a few hours.
All parents or guardians who wish to enroll a student in a summer camp must complete the entire registration form. There are no fees for this camp.
