In December 2025, Ogden School District’s Facilities & Operations Department hosted its 9th Annual Food Drive to support the TLC Food Pantry. What began as a holiday service project turned into a powerful example of community, commitment, and collaboration.
As part of this year’s drive, Custodial Supervisor Marc Blanchard made a pledge: if staff collected 1,500 food items, he would donate his hair to Locks of Love.
District employees rose to the challenge and then some. By the end of the drive, more than 1,500 food items had been collected and delivered to the TLC Food Pantry, providing critical support to local families.
“The timing could not have been better,” said Rose Jones of the TLC Food Pantry. “Our food supply was running low and this delivery was a true blessing. I send my love and appreciation to the Ogden School District and the Facilities and Operations Department.”
True to his word, Blanchard followed through on his promise.
The haircut took place at OTECH College and was performed by an OTECH High student enrolled in the barbering program. The moment not only celebrated the success of the food drive but also highlighted the power of partnership and real-world learning opportunities for students.
By combining community service with career and technical education, the event reflected the district’s commitment to supporting both families in need and students preparing for their futures.
From collecting food donations to trusting a student with the clippers, this effort demonstrated what is possible when a school community comes together with generosity, purpose, and heart.
