career fair

Students from the Ogden School District recently had the opportunity to explore high-demand career pathways during the Aerospace & Defense Career Exploration Event at Ben Lomond High School.

The event connected students with representatives from local aerospace and defense companies, education partners, and industry organizations to learn about careers in engineering, advanced manufacturing and technology. Students participated in hands-on activities, spoke directly with industry professionals and explored how their interests and skills could translate into future career opportunities.

“This is a pivotal time to make decisions,” said student Ivan Silva. “By talking to these companies, it kind of helps to broaden my horizon of where I want to go and what I want to do in my future.”

According to Dr. Donald Mendenhall, Ogden School District Work-Based Learning Coordinator, the aerospace and defense industry offers strong opportunities for students entering the workforce.

“The aerospace and defense industry offers students access to high-demand, high-wage careers with strong long-term potential,” said Dr. Mendenhall. “Many professionals begin as technicians, earning competitive wages and gaining hands-on experience right out of high school, while continuing their education.”

Dr. Mendenhall added that the industry provides clear pathways for advancement. “Technicians often progress into higher-paying technical and engineering roles, including quality assurance, design, leadership, or management. Entry-level technician salaries average between $62,000 and $67,000 annually, with experienced technicians earning $80,000 to $120,000. Many employers also offer tuition assistance and education reimbursement.”

Events like this help Ogden School District students see firsthand how classroom learning can connect to real-world careers. By building partnerships with industry leaders and education institutions, the district continues to create meaningful opportunities for students to explore their interests and prepare for future success.
